The army runs Indonesia with Jokowi a mere puppet packed off to Bogor and allowed to speak his lines as a spokesman at conferences. The army couldn't give two hoots about tourism in Bali - it's all about unfettered resource exploitation. The media dumbed down, the masses fed a diet of religion and vaudeville. Destination is failed state Malaysia via military junta Thailand. Sad to see.

Watered down or not, it can still be weaponized against anyone. Surprised that they exerted all that effort to formulate the bill when there are more pressing issues in the country. The unspoken motives feel nefarious. Potential spoils of political power in many resource-rich but still-developing countries have often led to perverse governments and laws. #1 While Western-Aussie media will lie about the law and try to demonize Indonesia like they did with Brunei and Sharia (e.g. Dorchester Collection boycott that's already forgotten after the Sultan said they won't enforce some things...), its a parent, spouse etc who has to file a complaint. Maybe western media misinformation will discourage certain types or demographics of [troublesome and often Aussie] tourists from backpacking or doing cheap package tours to Bali [to get drunk in paradise] - that's not necessarily a bad thing - except for bar and night club owners...😆 Btw, I am not a diver so I did not think to much of Pulau Weh, but I found Banda Aceh (also very strict Sharia law) to be a pleasant and interesting place to visit - strictly NO booze in Aceh province...

#2 Malaysia has online “misinformation” laws and you need a permit to hold a political demonstration. I am sure Singapore has similar laws on the books...

#4.2. Weakening shareholder rights - is there a link to this or to discussions on local law-accounting firm sites? This seems very unclear and weird - it must apply to partnerships or significant shareholders or something...

Indonesian law and enforcement has always been very selective and "elastic" and the real ownership of companies there can be very murky - nothing really new here beyond something for Western and especially Aussie media to target Indonesia with.... 😂
