- Twitter - I use Twitter to connect with other like-minded individuals and to search for information about obscure topics
- Google Trends - Understand consumer trends through Google user search queries
- Quartr - Great app for listening to conference calls and reading their transcripts
- Naver Datalab - Similar to Google Trends but for Korean search engine Naver (Korean language)
- Baidu Index - Similar to Google Trends but for Chinese search engine Baidu; has become difficult to access for overseas individuals however (Chinese language)
- Visual Ping - Monitor website changes, for example, investor relations websites for new releases
- Subredditstats.com - Find the relative rankings of any subreddit, to understand consumer trends
- Glassdoor - Find out the truth about companies through employee reviews
- Kanzhun — A Chinese version of Glassdoor (Chinese language)
- Weibo - Get a sense of what locals think in China, or what the government-directed algorithm wants you to see
- /sitemap.xml - Add this to the end of any URL to get a full-page directory of a particular website
- App Annie - Daily rankings of Android or iOS apps for particular markets
- SensorTower - Similar to App Annie, app ranking analytics
- CamelCamelCamel - Understand the demand for particular products through prices on Amazon.com
- StockX - Gauge second-hand prices for collectables
- Social Blade - Social media analytics, including for Twitter and YouTube
- Feedly RSS Reader - I use Feedly to monitor blogs and newspapers for updates, the paid version of US$6/month also enables you to search effectively across your monitored websites
- LinkedIn - Understand recent personnel changes for the company you’re investigating
- Listen Notes - Find a podcast that any individual has participated in
- Flighttracker24 - Track the private jet of the CEO of the company you’re investigating to understand his or her priorities
- Bloomberg - If you can afford it (US$2,300/month), there’s nothing like a Bloomberg machine to get the financial data you need
- TIKR - An alternative to the Bloomberg terminal for US$15/month
